Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson shared some interchangeableities and had their differences when it came to the subjects of nature and of death and immortality. They shared a love for nature, but approached nature from different surveys. Certainly, Whitman felt a deeper contact to nature than did Dickinson. Both expressed death from the locating of those left behind to deal with the aftermath. Also, while their views of immortality were not identical, they were identical in that neither of them seemed to have expressed immortality in undercoat of a continued personal existence in the traditional Christian sense. Whitman felt a brotherhood with nature, a roast that Dickinson never achieved. This oneness was expressed in Out of the place of origin Endlessly Rocking when Whitman said, But fuse the song of my dusky monster and brother, / That he sang to me in the moonlight on Paumanoks obsolescent beach, (sec 10). Whitman here referred to the bird as his brother, exp ressing a deep participation to nature.
In section ten of Song of Myself, Whitman spoke of a comfort level with nature that Dickinson never would have felt when he said: Alone far in the wilds and mountains I hunt, Wandering amazed at my own lightness and glee, In the late afternoon choosing a safe spot to realise the wickedness, Kindling a fire and broiling the fresh-killd game, Falling respectable asleep(predicate) on the gatherd leaves with my dog and gun by my side.
